Couple relaxing at home comfortably

How to keep your West Valley home comfortable this winter

The dropping temperatures in West Valley aren’t going anywhere, and while it’s simple to dream about the warmer temperatures, it’s critical to remember that you can remain just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a large role in this, which is why it’s so crucial to complete annual furnace service.

We do have to mention that there are few things that will offer as much to your comfort this season as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service is suggested to be done annually. After all, who wants to spend a cold winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them comfortable the entire season?

Already done with your annual furnace service? Here are a few other jobs you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — many energy companies will offer an energy audit for your home so you can identify areas that need fixed. You may be surprised what areas are allowing hot or cold air to sneak out.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of the door, doors allow the opportunity for a lot of cold air to make it’s way inside your home. However, when your door is shut, you could still have air making its way indoors. Check to see if your weatherstripping is in-tact or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be permitting cold air inside. If you find any issues, weatherstripping is easy to replace and may take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common culprits for air leaks could be your recessed lighting. Depending on the age of your lights, they may be letting all the hot air in your home sneak out through your ceiling. Fixing this is as basic as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These handful tips are just the beginning, but do recognize that there are other simple fixes you can do once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy things to do on the weekend.
